Chiropractor: Dr. Zac Taylor, Aspen Falls Spinal Care Center

Dr. Zac Taylor

Summary: When Dr. Zac Taylor joined Aspen Falls Spinal Care Center, he didn’t have a choice but to join a BNI group in the BNI Utah North region… Why? Because every doctor was a member of a chapter, and that’s how they built their business. When Dr. Zac joined, it took some time to develop relationships and create the trust factor within his group, but once that happened the referrals started rolling… He’s in his second year in his group, and the referrals from his Downtown GeneroCITY chapter account for 30% of his business!

Laura Viskovich: Hello and welcome to the Professional Business Connections. I’m Laura Viskovich, and really excited to interview today Zac Taylor. Now, Zac is a chiropractor from Aspen for Spinal Care Center. Welcome to the show.

Zac Taylor: Thanks for having me.

Laura Viskovich: Always. So Zac, how did you become the famous chiropractor? How did you get into it?

Zac Taylor: I’ve kind of grown up around the medical field. I knew I wanted to be in that field and so just kind of found chiropractic, and it fit really well with what I want to do, being conservative, working with people very closely, helping them get better on their own without medications and surgeries and things like that.

Laura Viskovich: So I’m dying to know, how do you build your business? How do you generate, you know, the income?

Zac Taylor: It’s a good question. We do quite a bit of marketing through SEO and Google, and other things like that, but all the doctors in our office are part of BNI groups as well. So we all attend those and build those relationships, and we get quite a few – quite a bit of our business from that networking.

Laura Viskovich: Great. So you mentioned BNI – BNI Utah North, which chapter are you in?

Zac Taylor: We’re in Generosity.

Laura Viskovich: Okay, fantastic. So how did you find generosity?

Zac Taylor: Well, when I first started with the Aspen Falls, the other doctors were already in a group. And he told me I needed to join, didn’t give me a choice, like, you’re going to join BNI, and I said, “Okay.”

Laura Viskovich: Right.

Zac Taylor: But one of our massage therapists happened to be in this Generosity chapter and she was moving to North Dakota for some weird reason.

Laura Viskovich: Right.

Zac Taylor: And so I ended up taking her spot.

Laura Viskovich: Fantastic. So you visited a group and you joined. So what was the big take away? Is it the training? Why does it work so well for your business?

Zac Taylor: It’s building those relationships. As people get to know each other, that’s when I found the way they pass business. Once they get to know you and trust you and know kind of what you’re about, and how you function and work, that’s when I started to see those referrals come in. It took a little bit to build those relationships. It took some time.

Laura Viskovich: Right.

Zac Taylor: But once those were built, things have been going really well since then.

Laura Viskovich: Fantastic and how long have you been in the group?

Zac Taylor: Just over two years.

Laura Viskovich: Wow. Well done.

Zac Taylor: Yeah, it’s been good.

Laura Viskovich: Yes, so it’s a gradually incline on the business receipts?

Zac Taylor: Yes, definitely.

Laura Viskovich: Great. Great. So is it – you’ve attended the training, correct?

Zac Taylor: Uh-huh.

Laura Viskovich: And how have you found that to be for you in networking?

Zac Taylor: It’s really good. They talk about all the different ways to get to know people and make – when you’re with somebody how to really take – make the most of that opportunity to get to know them and build that relationship rather than just hanging out, not really making much of that opportunity so –

Laura Viskovich: Right, right. So it’s not all about the whole selling to each other, it’s about –

Zac Taylor: Yeah.

Laura Viskovich: – giving what you give out is what you get back.

Zac Taylor: Exactly.

Laura Viskovich: So walk me through that for us, a little bit.

Zac Taylor: So the idea is, givers gain. As I give business to others, they will return the favor and give business to me. And as they start to trust me and what not, then, that comes back as well.

Laura Viskovich: Fantastic, and that’s really worked for your business. So can we talk about the percentage of the business that you get?

Zac Taylor: Sure, yeah. I would say we’re roughly around 20% to 30% that I personally get from BNI and so it’s been a great boost and help to my business.

Laura Viskovich: Fantastic, as opposed to the cold lead coming through the door, you have a warm referral.

Zac Taylor: Yes, it makes things so much easier when a friend of that person has referred them to me.

Laura Viskovich: Right.

Zac Taylor: They already have that trust in me and it is so much easier to help them get what they need.

Laura Viskovich: Fantastic. So what kind of interest – industries would you like to see come to the group, like what would an industry be that you would benefit from?

Zac Taylor: For sure – well, in my chapter, Generosity, we already have a health and wellness person that does a great job and we’ve worked really well together. Some other professions that I’d like to see are, acupuncture, personal injury attorneys, because we do work on auto accidents as well, nutritionist, personal trainers, massage therapists, any of those would be a great benefit to me, and I think I would be able to benefit them as well because I can pass those referrals to those people and help build their businesses.

Laura Viskovich: Fantastic. So all those different industries, you build their relationships and give referrals too?

Zac Taylor: Yes, exactly.

Laura Viskovich: I love the idea. That’s fantastic. So if there is anyone out there who is looking to visit a networking group, BNI chapter, what would your tip and trick be?

Zac Taylor: I would say come visit my chapter. It’s definitely – I think it’s the best in Utah.

Laura Viskovich: Yeah.

Zac Taylor: It’s very – we’re very welcoming. And when you come, just be willing to talk to people, be willing to interact. Don’t just sit in the corner because you’re not going to get much out of it that way.

Laura Viskovich: Right.

Zac Taylor: But come build those relationships, and you’ll get great results. You’ll love it.

Laura Viskovich: Fantastic. Well, thank you so much for coming on and sharing your journey.

Zac Taylor:  No problem.

Laura Viskovich: Wow, what an amazing journey. I think I could talk to Zac all day. So that is the show today guys. I hope you have enjoyed the journey that’s the professional business connections. And I’ll see you on the next show.
